What is Notary service? It is generally a verification of the authenticity of signatures and signors’ identities on many types of documents by a Notary Public. Basically, it’s proof that the people signing a document are who they say they are.
What is a Notary Public? “A person of proven integrity appointed by the state to act as an impartial witness.” Oregon Notaries Public must satisfy the State requirements, including a background check, and pass a notarial test before receiving their commission (license) from the State.
Despite misconceptions, a Notary Public cannot give legal advice or prepare legal instruments (aka documents).
Several Library staff members are authorized to serve as Notaries Public. Every effort is made to have a staff person available to provide this service during open hours. We recommend, however, that you call us, in advance, to make an appointment. Please contact the Reference Desk at 503-682-2744 or via email, reference@wilsonvillelibrary.org. We currently charge $3.00 for each notarial act.
We are sorry for any inconvenience, however, we are unable to execute notarizations for wills. You may want to contact a lawyer to provide these services.
