Library open until 9PM tonight and Friday night

The National Weather Service has issued an “Excessive Heat Warning” for Thursday, August 16, and Friday, August 17. To provide a cool space for citizens to get out of the heat, the Library will be open until 9:00 PM both Thursday and Friday.

Please take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When possible, reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Wear light weight and loose fitting clothing and drink plenty of water.

Heat stroke is an emergency. Call 9-1-1 if you suspect that someone has heat stroke. Heat stroke symptoms include:

  • A core body temperature above 105 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Fainting
  • Throbbing headache
  • Dizziness and light-headedness
  • Lack of sweating despite the heat
  • Red, hot, and dry skin
  • Muscle weakness or cramps
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Rapid heartbeat, which may be either strong or weak
  • Rapid, shallow breathing
  • Behavioral changes such as confusion, disorientation, or staggering
  • Seizures
  • Unconsciousness
