Have you checked out a magazine?

roll of magazines

All these could be yours – for two weeks (for free)!

I mean really checked out a magazine. As in picked up a magazine at the library, and checked it out on your library card.

You haven’t? Well, what are you waiting for?

Choose from a variety of magazines, from popular People, Reader’s Digest, and Sports Illustrated, to more narrow subjects like Cooks Illustrated, Macworld, Northwest Travel, Organic Gardening, Paper Crafts, and a whole lot more.

Maybe more scientific titles interest you? Then try Discover, Scientific American, and Popular Science.

Or how about titles for kids, like Calliope, Ranger Rick, and Highlights.

Did you know you can check out copies of Consumer Reports, The New York Times Book Review, and This Old House?

Just stop by the library and take a look at our magazine collection (it’s right by the large picture windows behind the Reference Desk). Magazines check out for 14 days – which is a lot more time than you have standing in the check-out line at the grocery store. And they’re free!

Honor Flight of Oregon Benefit film showing this Saturday, May 4

Honor Flight

Honor Flight of Oregon Benefit this Saturday, May 4 at 6:00 PM.

Please join us for a showing of the movie Honor Flight at Wilsonville Public Library on Saturday, May 4, at 6:00 PM. Tickets sold at the door are $5.00. Individual copies of the movie will be available for sale. This showing is a benefit for Honor Flight of Oregon.

Honor Flight is a heartwarming documentary about four living World War II veterans and a Midwest community coming together to give them the trip of a lifetime. Volunteers race against the clock to fly thousands of WWII veterans to Washington, DC to see the memorial constructed for them in 2004, nearly 60 years after their epic struggle.

The trips are called “Honor Flights” and for the veterans, who are in their late 80s and early 90s, it’s often the first time they’ve been thanked and the last trip of their lives. The 24-hour journey is full of surprises that deeply move all who are involved. It’s uncommon for World War II veterans to talk about the War, but the Honor Flight experience brings their stories out. Many veterans say, with the exception of their wedding day and the birth of their children, the trip is the best day of their life.
